Hi Spadds, I too am fairly new to Volvo world. I also bought a T5 with the upper bushing worn and bought a poly mounting to replace it. Removing the old bush is easier than it appears, the outer edge of the bush looks like metal but is in fact plastic, I just used a screwdriver and chipped at it with a hammer, it literally just split and fell out, then I pushed the new poly bush in place and refitted it together. There is no more knock when I pull away or change gear as the engine tilts back and forth, you do get more noise in the cabin, a nice rumble which I personally like but some people I notice have not been happy with the 'side effect' I hope this helps, Paul.

1) do i need to support the engine block (with a jack or something)? 2) do i need to buy a new nut&bolt or can i re-use the existing? 3) can the poly bush be squeezed in the gap - it looks too tight... cheers!

Hi, 1) nope 2) you are recommended to use a new nut and bolt 3) tricky question I know others on here have managed to remove the old bush and fit the new one with pretty much everything in situ. I couldn't see how to do that without bending the top engine steady bar (the one which goes to the bulkhead) more than I was comfortable with. So I took the long way round and removed the metal bracket containing the bush from the engine so I could press the new bush in in the shed with a vice and a jubilee clip to shrink the diameter of the bush so it would fit. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with the knack I was missing from the other method and save us both some hassle next time :-) Cheers, Pete

Hiya Mate, What ever you do unbolt the torque arm from the firewall mount and the top of the engine. I found that I didn't have to support the engine... having said that, it might be good idea. My top mount was reasonably intact, but I changed it to an IPD mount which is basically a 2 piece item. I used a decent sized "punch/drift" to remove the OE mount, fitted the IPD item (according to their instructions) and then refitted the torque arm. Make sure you torque up both the top mount and the firewall mounts (according to IPD) to 36 ft lbs and enjoy!! Took me half an hour if I remember correctly.

Hi all, I replaced the top mount on my V70 TDI, same as other variants I beleive. I made some carfully cut plywood frames that enable me to use a G clamp to press mount out and then in in situ. The only problem I now have is that the new mount - rubber from Eurocarparts, tends to slowly drift out towards the near side, I press it fully back in every 4 months or so. It may be faulty? Any advice? Ian
