940/V70 roofbars

Can anybody please tell me if the Volvo 940 roofbars I have from my last car (which go onto siderails), will fit my X reg (2000) V70 - also with side rails? It does fit perfectly - I can't budge it when it's on, but I've been told by a Volvo dealer that the bars for the 940 and V70 have different part numbers... Does this mean that it could be dangerous? I don't want the roofbox coming off on a motorway! Anyone with any experience of this? Many thanks.

Hi, No they won't. The fixing method for the V70 roof bars is totally different to those used on the 700/900/90 models.. You'd have more luck with a set for an 850.. Des. . . ;)

V70/940 roofbars 

So why do they fit so well? - the fixing doesn't look different to me -is the difference quite subtle, or are there different sorts of side rails on V70s, some of which will not accept these bars? It's really confusing as they appear to fit perfectly, but I'm told they shouldn't! Help!

Hi, The V70 has a set of roof cannels and trim strips that are replace when roof bars are fitted. With the 700/900/90 the roof bars are bolted directly to the roof. Whether they fit correctly or not, they shouldn't I would have though. But if they do.. :) Des. . . ;)

If they're the ones that clamp all around the roof rails (which if i remember the 900 ones correctly do) then they will fit ANY roof rails. The advantage is that you can run any width cross bars then, whereas the ones that are designed for the 855/V40/V70 are limited in the width that can be fitted. The Volvo ones that fit the 900 are the same as the old school Thule ones, whereas the new ones aren't as good
